Types of incision
Transaxillary Incision ( Most commonly used method )
- Characteristics
- 1. Scar is mostly hidden with this method
- 2. Generally preferred method in Asians
and their culture
- 3. There is no damage of mammary gland
- 4. There is less possibility of infection,
and maintain the sensation of the nipple
- 5. Operation time is short which leads
to a fast recovery
- Demerits
- 1. There is difficulty to see directly while
performing surgery as securing
a clear view is difficult
- 2. Insufficient exfoliation of muscle
and space can happen
- 3. Incomplete hemostasis may occur
- 4. There is high possibility of capsular
contracture due to insufficient
procured space or hematoma
Endoscopic Assisted Transaxillary Incision
( Surgery is performed looking through endoscopicSurgery is

- Characteristics
- 1. No damages in major blood vessels and nerves
- 2. Complete control of hemostasis
- 3. There is almost no pain or bleeding after surgery
- 4. Minimize complications such as capsular contracture
Periareolar Incision ( 2~3cm incision of periareolar area is done )
- Characteristics
- 1. Surgery is performed looking through
endoscopic
- 2. Fast operation time as implant inserting
access is short
- 3. There is less pain
- 4. Effective when done with revision surgery,
dual flat breast surgery or sagging breast
correction is done along.
- Disadvantages
- 1. Partial damage in mammary gland
may occur
- 2. High possibility of infection
- 3. Sensation of the nipple may degrade
- 4. Scar may be visible depending on
one's constitution
- 5. It is hard to undergo for those who
have very small areolas.
Inframammary Incision ( A method to make a beautiful breast line )
- Characteristics
- 1. Anatomically have shortest access
to the muscles
- 2. Short operation time
- 3. No damage in sensation of the nipple
- 4. Able to form a beautiful breast line
- 5. This method can be chosen when
transaxillary / periareolar incision is unable
- Disadvantages
- 1. Scar is easily seen than other
incision methods
- 2. Frequency of use is low
Navel Incision ( Most commonly used method along with saline solution implants )
- Characteristics
- 1. Leaves almost no scar around breasts
- 2. Barely used method in these days
- Disadvantages
- 1. Surgery cannot be performed
for sized implants through
navel incision
